During the 2022 state legislative session Local Solutions Support Center (LSSC) is publishing a weekly digest summarizing notable abusive preemption bills and their progress through session. This post will serve as an archive of all updates for the 2022 legislative session.

Updates and Trends in Our Top States

Trend – Education

GA HB 1178: Prevents certain rights of parents related to their child from so-called “undue infringement” by a state or local government entity, local board of education or other governing body, or any officer, employee, or agent thereof. This bill was signed into law on 4/28/2022. See bill here.

MO SB78: Would block state funding to middle or high schools that allow transgender women to participate on women’s sports. This bill is in committee. See bill here

MO SB 835: Would prohibit a public school from joining a statewide activities association if that association prohibits a home school student from participating, including because the student is home schooled. This bill is in committee. See bill here

MO HB1858: Would require school districts and school boards to collect curricula for public review via a searchable database and on each school’s website. Would also require each school board to hold public comment meetings regarding this bill’s curricula requirements. This bill passed the state house and has been sent to the state senate.
